Remove a connector you no longer need

Removing stops the machine receiving commands. It does not uninstall the software, so the service keeps running until somebody removes it on the machine.

Removing a connector stops Avvi sending it any further work. The row leaves the active fleet and nothing can be asked of that machine again.

What removing does not do is uninstall anything. The service on the machine keeps running, so a full decommission means removing it here and uninstalling it there.

The gap between the two catches people out on decommissioned servers, where a forgotten service keeps running on a box nobody looks at.

Before you begin

Confirm the machine is genuinely finished with. Removal is not a pause, and bringing it back means installing again.

Check whether anything is scheduled that needs that machine. A scheduled action for a removed connector fails when its time comes.

Remove it

  1. Open the fleet page under Settings, Integrations, and find the machine.
  2. Use the remove option on its row.
  3. Read the confirmation, which names the machine, and accept it.

The row leaves the active list and the service on that machine stops receiving commands.

Good to know

Removing takes the row off the fleet list entirely. There is no removed state to look at afterwards, and reinstalling on the same machine is a fresh install rather than a revival.

Removing one connector does not uninstall anything on the machine. Uninstalling is a separate job done there.

Decommissioning every connector across all your clients at once, under Settings, marks them for removal and stops them working. It still does not take the software off the machines, so a full clean-up means visiting each one.

Verify it worked

Confirm the machine is no longer in the active fleet list.

If the machine is still in service, confirm the connector service has also been uninstalled on it.

If something doesn’t look right

If a control is greyed out, your account is not allowed to change it. The setting is not broken and nothing is missing from the page.

If a setting is absent rather than greyed, the feature is switched off for your whole organisation rather than for you.

If the control works and saving fails, Avvi replies “Master admin access required”. That is the same permission problem, reported when you save rather than before.

If you removed the wrong machine, install a new connector on it. There is no undo.

If work was scheduled against that connector, it fails at its time. Re-create it against a machine that still exists.

If the client still needs on-premises work, they need a connector. Removing the last one is not a small change for them.

To report a problem, open a support conversation from the Help drawer with the client and the machine name.

FAQ

Q: The setting is greyed out and I cannot change it.

A: Your account is not allowed to change that setting. Ask an administrator with full access to change it for you, or to add your group to the permission.

Q: Who do I ask to get access?

A: Any administrator with full access in Avvi. Tell them which setting you were trying to reach and what you needed to change.

Q: Does this uninstall the software?

A: No, and neither does the organisation-wide decommission. Uninstalling is always done on the machine.

Q: Can I bring it back?

A: Not as the same record. Install a new connector on that machine.

Q: What happens to work scheduled for it?

A: Nothing is ever held for a connector. A scheduled action fails at its time, so re-create anything that still matters.
