Settings, or a client's settings?

Your settings apply everywhere and affect every client. A client's settings apply to that client alone. Most confusion is about which one somebody changed.

Your organisation’s settings live under Settings and apply to everything you do. Changing one affects every client at once.

A client’s settings live on that client’s own record and apply to it alone. Changing one affects nobody else.

Almost every report of a change that appeared to do nothing turns out to be a change made in the wrong one of the two.

How it works

Your settings cover the things that are true of your business: your support mailbox, what Avvi emails, whether administrators may work across clients, and who is in which access group.

A client’s settings cover the relationship with that company: consent, usage caps, whether their staff can use Avvi, and which of their groups can do what.

A few things exist in both, and the client’s version wins for that client. An escalation address is the clear example.

Where a setting is missing from one, it belongs in the other.

Good to know

Turning something on for your organisation does not turn it on for a client’s groups. Those are separate and both are required.

The reverse is also true. A client cannot be given something your organisation has not enabled.

What to do next

If a control is greyed out, your account is not allowed to change it. The setting is not broken and nothing is missing from the page.

If a setting is absent rather than greyed, the feature is switched off for your whole organisation rather than for you.

If the control works and saving fails, Avvi replies “Master admin access required”. That is the same permission problem, reported when you save rather than before.

Before changing anything, decide whether it should be true of every client or of one. That decides where to go.

If a change appeared to do nothing, look for the same setting in the other place before repeating it.

To find where a particular setting lives, the settings map has its own page.

FAQ

Q: The setting is greyed out and I cannot change it.

A: Your account is not allowed to change that setting. Ask an administrator with full access to change it for you, or to add your group to the permission.

Q: Who do I ask to get access?

A: Any administrator with full access in Avvi. Tell them which setting you were trying to reach and what you needed to change.

Q: I changed a setting and nothing happened.

A: Check whether you changed yours when you meant the client’s, or the other way round.

Q: Which one wins?

A: Where both exist, the client’s applies to that client.

Q: Can a client change their own settings?

A: No. Both sets are yours to change.

Set usage limits for a client is a worked example of a setting that lives on the client rather than on you.
