Grant admin consent for a client
Consent is given in the client's own Microsoft sign-in, not in Avvi, and only an administrator there can give it. Avvi generates the link to send.
Admin consent is what allows Avvi to act in a client’s Microsoft 365. Without it you can still add the client and start a conversation, and every action fails.
Consent is granted in the client’s own Microsoft sign-in rather than anywhere in Avvi. Only an administrator of that organisation can give it.
Avvi’s job is to generate the link. Getting it to the right person is yours.
Before you begin
Know who administers the client’s Microsoft 365. That person, not you, has to complete the step unless you already hold delegated access into their tenant.
Have the client open in Avvi.
Grant the consent
- Open the client and look for the Admin consent required card.
- Select Get admin consent URL.
- Copy the address from the Consent URL field with Copy URL, or use Open consent page if you can sign in to the client yourself.
- Send the address to the client’s administrator if you cannot complete it.
- Ask them to sign in and accept.
The Admin consent required card disappears once consent has been granted, which is how you confirm it worked.
Good to know
The card only appears while consent is outstanding. A client that never shows it is already consented.
Sending the link on is the normal path, not a fallback. Most MSP administrators are not administrators of their clients’ organisations.
Verify it worked
Reload the client and confirm the Admin consent required card has gone.
Ask Avvi to do something read-only for that client, such as searching for a user. A result means consent is working.
If something doesn’t look right
If the card is still showing after the client says they accepted, reload the page before doing anything else.
If actions still fail with a permissions error, the person who accepted may not have been an administrator of that organisation. Confirm who completed it.
If a specific capability fails once consent is granted, that capability may need a permission the original consent did not cover. Avvi detects that itself and offers Update consent at the point it matters, so there is no need to hunt for the link again.
If none of that explains it, open a support conversation from the Help drawer. Include the client name and the exact message the failing action returned.
FAQ
Q: Can I grant consent myself?
A: Only if you can sign in to the client’s Microsoft 365 as an administrator. Otherwise the link has to go to somebody who can.
Q: Does consent expire?
A: Not on a schedule. A newly needed permission is handled through Update consent rather than by starting again.
Q: The client asks what they are agreeing to.
A: The consent page itself lists the permissions before they accept. Point them at that list rather than describing it.
