Schedule something for later
Say when as part of the request. Avvi checks every half minute, runs the change, then confirms whether it actually took effect.
Adding a time to a request schedules it instead of running it. Remove Sam’s access on Friday is a scheduled request; the same sentence without the day runs now.
Avvi checks for due work every half minute, so a scheduled change runs within about thirty seconds of its time rather than exactly on it.
A change you ask for now is often checked back against Microsoft 365 afterwards and reported as confirmed. A scheduled change is not, whatever it is. Check the result yourself once the time has passed.
Before you begin
Decide the time and be explicit about it. A date and a time is unambiguous where Friday is not.
Know which time zone you mean. Which zone a scheduled action runs in has its own page and is worth reading once.
Schedule it
- Open chat and check the client.
- Make the request with the timing in it. For example: disable jane@example.com at 6pm on her last day, the 14th.
- Read the confirmation, checking the person, the change and the time.
- Confirm.
Avvi reports that the action is scheduled and when it will run.
Good to know
Scheduling covers changes to mailbox access, forwarding, Send As, out of office replies, enabling and disabling accounts, creating an account, and restarting a server or a workstation. Other requests run when you ask.
Asking what is scheduled lists your own upcoming work for the current client, with its time. Work scheduled by a colleague is not listed.
Verify it worked
Ask Avvi what is scheduled and confirm the time and the target are what you intended.
When it runs, read the notification. Where the change is one Avvi checks afterwards, the notification says whether it was confirmed.
If something doesn’t look right
If the scheduled time reads back differently from what you meant, cancel it and ask again with an explicit date, time and zone.
If you want the change now instead, cancel the scheduled one first. Otherwise it runs again later.
If the action did not run at its time, that has its own page covering the causes.
If it ran and you want certainty, check the current state directly. A check that could not be carried out is reported as success, so a confirmation is not proof on its own.
FAQ
Q: How precise is the timing?
A: Within about thirty seconds of the time you set.
Q: Can I schedule anything?
A: Not everything. Access, forwarding, Send As, out of office, account enable and disable, account creation, and restarts can be scheduled.
Q: How do I cancel one?
A: Ask Avvi what is scheduled, then ask it to cancel the one you mean, before its time.
