Which actions cannot be undone
Most changes can be reversed by asking for the opposite. A few destroy something, and the confirmation is the last point at which they can be stopped.
Most of what Avvi does can be reversed by asking for the opposite. Access can be granted again, an account can be enabled, forwarding can be removed.
A small number of actions destroy something. For those the confirmation is the last point at which they can be stopped, which is the reason to read it rather than skim it.
Reversible is not the same as harmless. Undoing a change does not undo what happened while it was in place, and it does not put back a licence somebody else has taken in the meantime.
| Action | Reversible? | What reversing does not restore |
|---|---|---|
| Grant or remove mailbox access | Yes | Anything read or sent while the access existed |
| Set or remove forwarding | Yes | Mail already copied elsewhere |
| Disable an account | Yes | Licences, if you asked for them to be released and somebody has since taken them |
| Reset a password | Yes, by setting another | The old password, which is gone |
| Reset multi-factor | Partly | Removed methods must be registered again by the person |
| Assign or remove a licence | Yes, if a seat is free | A seat somebody else claimed in between |
| Convert a mailbox to shared | Yes | Nothing, though the person needs a licence again to use it |
| Retire a device | No | Company data removed from it |
| Wipe a device | No | Everything on the device |
| Delete a client from Avvi | No | Its conversations and user records. The record of what was done for them survives |
Good to know
Deleting a client removes its conversations and its user records permanently, and cancels anything scheduled for it.
The record of what was done for them survives, so the compliance trail is not lost. Treat the deletion as the most serious thing on this page anyway.
Retiring and wiping a device differ in what they remove, and choosing between them is worth doing deliberately rather than at the confirmation.
Once it has started, cancelling is refused and it follows the rows above. A scheduled restart cannot be cancelled at all once sent.
