Glossary of Avvi terms

The words that mean something specific here, including several that look like ordinary English and are not.

Several words below look like ordinary English and mean something narrower here. Action, client and consent are the three that cause the most confusion.

Where a term has its own page, the definition here is the short form and the page carries the detail.

Term Means
Action Work in six specific areas, shown as the Actions figure on a client’s usage. It does not cover every change, and it is not what the daily limit counts
Access group A group at your organisation deciding what its administrators may do
Client A Microsoft 365 organisation as Avvi knows it, with your settings on top
Confirmation The step before any change, naming exactly what will happen
Connector Software on a client’s machine letting Avvi reach their own network
Consent Permission granted in a client’s Microsoft sign-in for Avvi to act there
Declined A quarantine release request refused, with a reason the requester sees
Heartbeat A connector checking in. The column showing when it last did
Master administrator The single permanent full-access holder at your organisation
Module What a connector was installed to do: Workstation, Identity, Sync or ServerOps
Multi-tenant access Whether an administrator may work on clients other than your own organisation
Practice client A rehearsal client that costs no capacity and touches no real tenant
Secure link An expiring, view-limited link for sharing a credential
Service key A key for installing connectors at scale, optionally reusable and optionally capped
Support mailbox The address at your organisation receiving escalations and summaries
Tenant A Microsoft 365 organisation, as Microsoft defines it

Good to know

Action is the term worth internalising, because the product uses it for two different figures. On the Usage screen it counts messages sent to Avvi, so a client who only ever asks questions still runs it up.

In the daily summary email it means something narrower: the entries Avvi recorded while working. The two rarely match, and neither is a count of changes made.

Client and tenant are used interchangeably in conversation and are not the same. One is Avvi’s record, the other is Microsoft’s organisation.

Client versus tenant, what counts against an allowance, and the kinds of Avvi user each have their own page.
