Signed out with "Session Expired"
Avvi ends a session for several different reasons and shows the same panel for most of them. Signing back in restores the same access.
Avvi ends a session and shows a full-screen panel saying so. Nothing is wrong with the account, nothing saved is lost, and signing back in restores exactly the same access.
Several different situations produce this, and most of them show the same panel. The cause is worth identifying, because one of them is a session limit rather than a timeout.
Symptom
A full-screen panel appears titled “Session Expired” with one of two messages.
A plain page carrying the same title, with the number of idle minutes in brackets, means the same thing. Which one you get depends on what you were doing when the session ended.
After a period of inactivity:
“Your session has expired due to inactivity. Redirecting to login…”
In every other case:
“You are no longer signed in. Redirecting to login…”
Avvi then returns you to the sign-in page on its own.
Cause
The first message is a genuine idle timeout. Your organisation sets how long a session may sit unused.
The second message covers everything else, and the most common cause is the concurrent session limit. Each account may hold a limited number of sessions at once, and your organisation sets that number too.
When the limit is exceeded, Avvi ends the session that has gone longest without activity. The session you are working in is never the one chosen, so this usually signs you out of a machine you had forgotten about rather than the one in front of you.
Fix
Sign in again. Access, clients and history are all unchanged.
If you were partway through a request in chat when it happened, check whether it completed before repeating it.
Work you had typed but not sent is not preserved. Anything Avvi had already done is unaffected.
If something doesn’t look right
If a control is greyed out, your account is not allowed to change it. The setting is not broken and nothing is missing from the page.
If a setting is absent rather than greyed, the feature is switched off for your whole organisation rather than for you.
If it happens repeatedly on the machine you are actively using, you are probably at the session limit with old sessions counted against you. Signing out of other devices, or asking an administrator to end your other sessions, clears it.
If it happens within minutes of signing in, the session length may be set very short for your organisation. An administrator can check both the session length and the concurrent limit under Settings.
If you cannot account for the other sessions at all, treat that as worth checking rather than ignoring. Ask Avvi to show recent sign-ins for your account, and if anything looks wrong, change your password and ask an administrator to end your sessions everywhere.
If none of that explains it, open a support conversation from the Help drawer. Include your email address, your organisation name, and the exact title and message you saw.
FAQ
Q: The setting is greyed out and I cannot change it.
A: Your account is not allowed to change that setting. Ask an administrator with full access to change it for you, or to add your group to the permission.
Q: Who do I ask to get access?
A: Any administrator with full access in Avvi. Tell them which setting you were trying to reach and what you needed to change.
Q: Did I lose anything?
A: Nothing that was saved. A message typed but not sent is gone.
Q: I was actively working and still got signed out.
A: The session limit never ends the session you are using. If it happened while you were working, look at idle timeout or a session that was no longer recognised.
Q: Can I make sessions last longer?
A: An administrator changes the session length and the concurrent limit for the organisation. Neither is a personal setting.
