Does Avvi change anything when I ask a question?
No. Anything that changes something is shown to you first and waits. A question is answered and nothing happens.
Asking a question changes nothing. Avvi looks something up and tells you, and that is the whole of it.
Anything that would change something is shown to you first, in a message describing exactly what is about to happen, and it waits for you to agree.
Asking about something almost never changes it. The one exception is a security investigation or a sharing audit run for the first time on a company, which can switch on Microsoft’s audit collection so there is something to read.
How it works
A question is answered as soon as Avvi has the answer. There is no step in between.
A request to change something produces a confirmation naming the person and the change. Nothing runs until you reply to agree.
Replying with anything other than a yes or a no discards the pending change. Avvi treats what you said as a new request rather than holding the old one open.
Cancelling leaves everything exactly as it was, with nothing recorded as done.
Good to know
Questions about your own account are the safest thing you can do in Avvi, and asking one before making a change is the sensible order.
If you are ever unsure whether something you typed was a question or a request, the answer is on the screen. A confirmation means it was a request.
What to do next
Ask what you need to know. Checking before acting costs nothing and is the habit worth having.
If a confirmation appears and you did not intend a change, cancel it. Nothing had started.
If you want a change, read the confirmation carefully before agreeing. That is the moment to catch a wrong name.
FAQ
Q: Could I change something by accident?
A: Not to a person or their account. A change to those is always shown to you first and waits.
Q: What if I typed something ambiguous?
A: If Avvi read it as a change, you will see a confirmation. Cancel it.
Q: Does asking get recorded?
A: Yes, as a lookup. It changes nothing.
Q: Is cancelling safe?
A: Completely. Nothing had happened.
