Why does Avvi ask me to confirm before it does something?
Confirming is how you check Avvi understood you. Anything that changes something waits for you, and anything that only looks something up does not.
Avvi shows you exactly what it is about to do and waits, whenever a request would change something. Asking a question never does this, because nothing is changing.
The confirmation is your chance to check it understood you. A request can be perfectly reasonable and still be aimed at the wrong person.
Nothing happens while it waits. Cancelling at that point leaves everything exactly as it was.
How it works
The confirmation names the person, the change, and what will happen afterwards.
Replying to confirm is what runs it. Replying to cancel stops it and records nothing as done.
An unrelated reply is never treated as approval. It discards the pending change instead, and Avvi treats what you said as a new request.
A confirmation is also single use and does not sit around indefinitely. One left unanswered for about half an hour stops being valid, and you would ask again.
Good to know
Requests that only look something up are answered straight away, with no confirmation. That is not Avvi being inconsistent.
Anything that changes something is also logged with your IT team, and Avvi tells you so at the time.
What to do next
Read the person and the change named on the confirmation, and compare them against what you meant.
Reply to confirm if it is right. Say what is wrong if it is not, in the same conversation.
If you are unsure whether it did anything, ask Avvi in that conversation. It will tell you what it did.
FAQ
Q: What happens if I do nothing?
A: Nothing runs. The confirmation stops being valid after a while and you would ask again.
Q: I replied something else and it started over.
A: Anything other than a yes or a no discards the pending change. Nothing ran, and Avvi took your message as a new request.
Q: Can I turn this off?
A: No. You are asked before every change.
Q: Does cancelling leave anything half done?
A: No. Nothing had started.
