Avvi showed a technical-looking error I do not understand

Quote it back and ask what it means. Avvi wrote it and can explain it in ordinary words, or tell you it needs your IT team.

Quote the message back and ask what it means. Avvi produced it and can usually explain it in ordinary words, including what to do next.

Most of these messages are not about you having done something wrong. They describe something Avvi could not do, and the reason is often outside your account entirely.

The one thing not worth doing is trying the same request repeatedly. A message that names a permission or a setting will say the same thing the second time.

Symptom

A reply contains wording that reads like it was meant for somebody technical, and does not say what to do about it.

Cause

Some messages come from Microsoft rather than from Avvi, and arrive in Microsoft’s own words.

Some describe a permission or a setting on your organisation, which is a thing your IT team controls rather than something you can act on.

Some are genuinely temporary, describing something that was briefly unavailable.

Fix

  1. Copy the message, or enough of it to identify it.
  2. Ask Avvi what it means and what you should do.
  3. If the answer points at a permission or a setting, ask Avvi to pass the request to your IT team.
  4. If it sounds temporary, wait a few minutes and try once more.

Asking in the same conversation is better than starting a new one, because Avvi still knows what you were doing.

If something doesn’t look right

If Avvi explains the message and the explanation still leaves you stuck, say so. Asking what to do next is a fair question and it will answer it.

If the same message appears every time, stop repeating the request and ask for it to be passed to your IT team.

If the message mentions your account being disabled or your session expiring, that is a different situation and signing in again is the first thing to try.

A: Almost certainly not. Most of these describe something Avvi could not do.

Q: Should I try again?

A: Once, if it sounds temporary. Not repeatedly.

Q: Who fixes it?

A: If it names a permission or a setting, your IT team. Ask Avvi to pass it on.
