See which devices a user has

Ask by name and Avvi lists their managed devices with compliance state, operating system, model and storage.

Asking Avvi what devices somebody has lists the machines managed for them, with whether each is compliant, what it runs, what model it is, and how much space is left.

The list covers managed devices. A personal machine that was never enrolled does not appear, which matters when somebody insists they have a laptop that is not listed.

Nothing is changed by asking, so this is a safe first step before any device action.

Before you begin

Have the person’s name or email address. Either works.

Know what you are actually after. Compliance, storage and model answer different questions and all three come back together.

Ask Avvi

  1. Open chat and check the client.
  2. Ask for the person’s devices. For example: what devices does jane@example.com have?
  3. Read the list, including the compliance state on each.

Avvi returns the devices it manages for that person, or says plainly that there are none.

Good to know

A device that is not enrolled into management is invisible here. Absence from the list is not proof the person has no laptop.

Compliance state comes from the client’s own policies. A device marked non-compliant is failing their rules rather than Avvi’s.

Verify it worked

Compare the device names against what the person tells you they have. A mismatch is worth resolving before acting.

If storage or compliance looks stale, it reflects the last time the device checked in rather than this moment.

If something doesn’t look right

If a device the person definitely uses is missing, it is probably not enrolled into management. That is a client-side gap rather than an Avvi one.

If two devices have similar names, use the full name when asking for an action so the wrong one is not targeted.

If nothing is returned at all for somebody who should have devices, check you are on the right client.

To report a problem, open a support conversation from the Help drawer with the client, the person, and the device you expected.
