See how much of a client's allowance is used

Three figures are kept per client: API calls, conversations, and actions. Actions counts every message sent to Avvi, not changes made.

Each client carries three usage figures: API calls, Conversations, and Actions. They measure different things and it is easy to read one expecting another.

API calls counts every request Avvi makes to the assistant, so one question can count several times while Avvi works through it. Conversations counts conversations started. Actions counts work in certain areas.

Actions is the figure people mean when they ask how much a client is using, and it is the smallest of the three by a distance.

Before you begin

Know which figure you actually want. A client who asks a lot of questions and changes little looks busy on one figure and idle on another.

Note that the three meters use fixed windows. API calls and Actions are for today; Conversations covers the last thirty days.

Check the figures

  1. Open the client.
  2. Find the usage figures on their record.
  3. Read API calls, Conversations and Actions against any caps you have set.

A client past a cap is marked over limit next to the figure. The period buttons below the meters change a separate activity block rather than the meters themselves.

Good to know

A user asking whether their questions cost the company anything is asking about these figures. Every message counts, including questions that change nothing.

Actions counts messages sent to Avvi. Each one counts once, as it arrives, whether it changed anything or not.

API calls counts each exchange with the assistant instead, and Avvi often goes back and forth several times while working through one message.

A client will therefore have more API calls than actions, usually several times more. Both figures are true and they answer different questions.

Verify it worked

Compare a busy day’s figures against what the client actually asked for.

Remember the action count includes every message, so it will exceed the number of changes made by a wide margin.

If something doesn’t look right

If the action count seems low, the question is how much the client’s staff are using chat at all. Nothing is filtered out of it.

If a client is marked over limit and is still working, that will be one of the two figures that does not block.

If the figures look wrong for a period, remember the meters are fixed windows. Changing the period buttons will not move them.

To report a problem, open a support conversation from the Help drawer with the client and the period you were looking at.

FAQ

Q: What counts as an action?

A: Every message sent to Avvi, counted once each, including questions that changed nothing.

Q: Do questions count?

A: Every request to the assistant counts as an API call. Whether it also counts as an action depends on the area, not on whether it changed anything.

Q: Which figure blocks the client?

A: The daily API cap. The other two are shown and do not stop work.
