What "Admin consent required" means
A client shows this until an administrator of that organization approves Avvi's access. The client is listed but nothing can run against it yet.
A client you have added shows a panel reading Admin consent required until an administrator of that client’s organization approves Avvi’s access.
The client is listed and looks set up, but nothing can run against it yet. That gap between looking ready and being ready is why the state gets reported as a fault rather than as a waiting step.
How it works
Adding a client tells Avvi which organization you want to manage. It does not give Avvi any access to it.
Access is granted by an administrator inside the client’s own organization, through their Microsoft sign-in rather than anywhere in Avvi. The panel description says so directly: “This client needs Microsoft admin consent before Avvi can manage it.”
Once that approval completes, the panel stops asking and requests against the client start working.
Good to know
The person approving has to be an administrator of the client’s organization, not of yours. Being an MSP admin in Avvi does not qualify you to approve on their behalf.
You can send the consent link to somebody who does qualify. The Get admin consent URL button produces a link you can copy and pass on.
Verify it worked
Reopen the client after somebody has approved. The panel no longer asks for consent.
Ask Avvi something read-only about that client. A successful answer is better proof than the panel alone, because it exercises the whole path.
What to do next
Consent lets Avvi reach the client. Deciding who on your team can work on that client, and what they are allowed to do, is separate and comes from the access group they are in.
A client can be fully consented and still refuse a request, because the person asking has not been given the capability.
FAQ
Q: Can I approve consent for my client myself?
A: Only if you are also an administrator of their Microsoft organization. Your role in Avvi does not carry across.
Q: The client approved it but the panel still asks.
A: The approval was probably abandoned partway. Ask them to open the link again and complete it to the end.
Q: Does consent expire?
A: The approval stands, but a capability needing access the client never approved requires a refresh before it works.
