This conversation has accumulated too much context
A long conversation reaches a point where Avvi cannot process another turn. Retrying the same message does not help; starting a new conversation does.
A long conversation eventually reaches a point where Avvi cannot process another turn, and it says so rather than failing quietly.
Retrying the same message does not help. That matters, because retrying is the first thing almost everyone tries.
Starting a new conversation and repeating the request does work, and nothing you already asked for is undone.
Symptom
Avvi replies with:
“This conversation has accumulated too much context for me to process in a single request.”
The reply asks you to start a new conversation and repeat your request. A reference identifier appears at the end of it.
Cause
Everything said in one conversation stays part of that conversation. A long exchange, or one that returned a lot of information, eventually exceeds what Avvi can work with in a single turn.
The limit belongs to the conversation rather than to your account or your request. The same question asked in a fresh conversation goes through normally.
Fix
- Start a new conversation.
- Repeat the request you were making when the message appeared.
- Include any detail from the old conversation that still matters, such as the person or the client you were working on.
Avvi answers as it would have done, with no missing steps.
If something doesn’t look right
If the message appears almost immediately in a brand new conversation, that is unusual. Ask Avvi to pass it to your IT team, quoting the reference identifier from the message and what you asked.
If you are unsure whether something you asked for earlier actually completed, ask Avvi in the new conversation what was done for that person or client.
What to do next
Long, wide-ranging conversations reach this point sooner. Splitting work into one request per conversation avoids it, and it also makes it easier to tell later what was done and when.
FAQ
Q: Have I lost the old conversation?
A: No. It stays in your history and you can still read it.
Q: Will retrying eventually work?
A: No. The same conversation will keep returning the same message. Start a new one.
Q: Does this mean I asked too much?
A: Not necessarily. A conversation that returned a lot of information reaches this point faster than a long one made of short exchanges.
