Tell Avvi which client you mean
The client is chosen in the picker, not in the sentence. Naming a client in a message does not switch to it.
The client a conversation works on is set with the picker, not by what you type. Writing a client’s name in a message does not switch to that client.
Each conversation is tied to the client it was started against, permanently. Choosing a different client does not move the conversation across, it starts a new one.
The practical consequence is worth internalising. A perfectly worded request aimed at the wrong client will do exactly what it says, to the wrong people.
Before you begin
Know which client you are working on. The confirmation names it, and that is the last check before anything happens.
Expect a new conversation when you change client. That is what happens, rather than something you have to remember to do.
Choose the client
- Open chat.
- Use the client picker and start typing the client’s name.
- Choose the client from the list.
- Make your request.
Avvi names the client on every confirmation, so you can check it without going back to the picker.
Good to know
A conversation cannot be moved to another client. Picking a different client opens a fresh conversation and leaves the original on its original client, which is why work for two clients is always two conversations.
An older conversation started before clients were stamped may not carry one. Start a fresh conversation rather than guessing which client it is on.
Verify it worked
Read the client named on the confirmation before approving anything.
If it is not the client you meant, stop there. Nothing has happened yet.
If something doesn’t look right
If the confirmation names a client you did not expect, do not correct the person or the action. Change the client first, then make the request again.
If a change went to the wrong client, pick that client, which opens a conversation on it, and ask for the opposite immediately.
If the picker does not list a client you manage, that is an access problem rather than a chat problem, and the prerequisites page covers what has to be true.
If a change reached a client the picker never had selected, open a support conversation from the Help drawer, with the conversation and the client name.
FAQ
Q: Can I say the client’s name instead of using the picker?
A: No. The picker is what sets it.
Q: Does the client stay set if I come back tomorrow?
A: Yes. The conversation remembers which client it was started against.
Q: What happens if I pick a different client halfway through?
A: Avvi starts a new conversation on that client. The one you were in stays where it was.
